The minister for human resource and development (HRD) Kapil Sibal has called for greater collaboration between the Centre and states on education.
?It is time for state governments to collaborate with the Centre and not be monitored by it?, he said at the opening session of a daylong conference organised by the HRD ministry with state and union territories education secretaries.
The meeting lent focus on how the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) could be enhanced across colleges and universities in India.
Also included in the agenda was the progress of National Institutes of Technology (NITs ) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Sibal implored the secretaries to propel the ?national mission on education through ICT? which received Rs 900 crore in the current year?s budget. The mission endeavours to create very high quality e-content and provide connectivity and related infrastructure to each of the 20,000 colleges and to university departments.
