Due to the some constraints in the state and central sector power projects, PSEB is facing a temporary short fall in the availability of power.
One unit of Singrouli power plant (500 mw) of NTPC is out of generation since June, 23, 08. Its revival date was earlier given as July 8 has now been revised to July 18. Another unit of 200mw is also out due to the Boiler Tube Leakage and shall be revived on July 11. PSEB is losing 70 mw which means 17 Lus per day.One unit of GGSSTP Ropar, which was out of generation since June 15, 2008 due to fire in the cable gallery has been lighted up on Wednesday Board will get 210 mw/50 lus per day from this unit.
Due to widespread rains in pit head areas, wet coal is being received which is causing frequent choking in the coal path to boiler bunkers and is affecting generation to some extent. BBMB has drastically reduced releases of water from Pong reservoir to 1000cusecs only, depriving PSEB of the additional generation at Mukerian Hydel Project. However Irrigation authorities have been requested to increase the releases so as to get increased generation from Mukerian Hydel Project.
Other States like Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Naidu and Gujarat etc. are also facing huge power shortages due to outages of their generating plants whereas normally they should have been surplus in power during this period of monsoon and in turn is affecting the frequency of the national grid, said YS Ratra, chairman, PSEB.
