Reliance Retail, which has been under fire from small retailers and the lobby against organised retail campaigners, had to shut a Reliance Fresh store in the affluent South Delhi locality of Saket on Thursday, but this time owing to administrative problems.
According to sources, the store was located in a non-commercial zone, and despite Reliance Retail having paid the requisite fee, the administration had asked it to discontinue operations until the matter was sorted out. The store would be opened soon as there was no lapse on part of the company; the problem was at the government?s end, sources told FE.
Reliance Retail, which has been facing troubles in the north and the east, is busy charting new strategies to counter the opposition which has only grown manifold in the last few months, resulting in its exit from UP. It had to close 200 collection centres in the north and the east with demand slowing down as a result of suspended operations in these states.
Meanwhile, Aditya Birla Retail forays into the north with its More Stores, opening in the capital on Saturday.
