Registrations for the Common Admission Test (CAT), 2011, the gateway to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), were marginally up at 2.05 lakh compared with 2.04 lakh in 2010.
The CAT 2011 voucher sales ended on October 1, and about 2.06 lakh vouchers were sold. The registration window ended on October 4 with approximately 2.05 lakh registered aspirants. CAT 2011 will be held between October 22 and November 18, 2011.
?Of these, 73% are male and 27% are female candidates. This marginally exceeds last year?s registrations of 2.04 lakh,? said a statement from Promteric, the US-based testing agency that has been conducting the computer-based CAT for two years now.
The cities in which the highest numbers of candidates have been scheduled to test are New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune. Over the next two weeks, Prometric will be reconciling the registration data to produce a final report which will include actual numbers and demographic break-up of candidates. ?The registration process has ended smoothly. The marginal increase in the number of registrations this year is a sign that management is still a sought after career choice by young Indians,? said prof Janakiraman Moorthy, CAT 2011 convenor.
