Taking a cue from neighbouring Haryana which has extended host of special concessions to woo non-resident Indians including last week?s order of 10% reservation in industrial plots to be floated by Haryana State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation in future schemes, the Punjab government has decided to set up an NRI cell in the chief minister?s office.
An order to this effect was issued on Tuesday saying that conscious of the problems being faced by NRIs and addressing their issues and grievances on priority basis, the Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal had on Tuesday set up a NRI cell in his office.
The NRI Cell in CMO would work under the chairmanship of principal secretary to CM Darbara Singh Guru with other members including financial commissioner, revenue, or his secretary level representative and Director General Police or his representative. D S Mangat OSD to Principal Secretary to CM will be the member secretary.
Disclosing this, a spokesman of the CM?s office said that this Cell has been setup by the CM with a view to quickly respond to the problems being faced by NRIs and to ensure their speedy disposal under time bound programme from different quarters. He said the SAD-BJP government has taken path breaking steps to build close relations with the NRIs.
