Government agencies and private millers procured more than 61.68 lakh tonne of wheat till last evening as compared to 58.58 lakh tonne on the same day of the previous year .
Out of total procurement of 61.68 lakh tonne in all the procurement centres, government agencies procured 61.61 lakh tonne (99.9%) whereas private traders procured 7,305 tonne (0.1%).
Pungrain has procured 9.82 lakh tonne (15.9%) whereas Markfed procured 14.13 lakh tonne (22.9%). Punsup procured 14.26 lakh tonne (23.1%), PSWC procured 7 lakh tonne (11.4%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 6.63 lakh tonne (10.8%) of wheat.
The central government agency FCI had been able to procure 9.74 lakh tonne (15.8%).
The spokesman added that Patiala with 7.5 lakh tonne of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur with 7.54 lakh tonne of procurement was at second slot and district Ferozepur with 7.08 tonne of procurement ranked at third position.
The state government has set up 1,650 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat.
