The Food Processing Ministry has submitted a proposal to the Planning Commission for Mega Food Parks to provide a mechanism to bring together farmers, processors and retailers, and link agricultural production to the market.
Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahai said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that the scheme is to be implemented under the 11th five-year plan.
It envisages a well-defined agri/horticultural processing zone containing state of the art processing facilities with support infrastructure and well established supply chain, he said.
Sahai said the scheme also envisages Public-Private Partnership models for its implementation.
The scheme is under finalisation in consultation with the Planning Commission for inclusion in the 11th plan, the minister said.
