Notwithstanding the governmental push, the infrastructure industry is faced with problems like lack of proper planning while executing the projects and low-trained manpower, said Union minister of state for mines T Subbarami Reddy.

Delivering the inaugural address at the Infrastructure Today International Conference here on Wednesday, Reddy said the problems such as land acquisition, forest clearance etc, are coming in the way of the implementation of the infrastructure projects.

Accordingly the projects are being delayed resulting in overall loss to the contractor. ?We need to have proper planning in advance before the project is awarded,? Reddy said.

He wanted that all the mandatory permissions should be obtained before the project is awarded.

He further said that the infrastructure industry is now turning out to be the biggest employer in the country employing over 35 million workforce. Reddy said that these technicians required advanced training on par with the international standards.

On the new mining policy, which is expected to be passed shortly in Parliament, Reddy said that it will provide good opportunities for joint ventures with foreign mining companies. ?We are looking for more joint ventures in mining sector, especially in gold and diamond,? the minister revealed.

Reddy said that the government is planning to reduce import of gold and diamonds. ?We (the government) are in contact with the multinational mining companies to enter into joint ventures under the new mining policy,? he added.
