Paradip Port has handled 18.21 million tonnes of cargo during April-July, registering a growth of 22.21% over 14.90 million tonnes handled during the corresponding period last year.
?The growth rate during the four months is highest among all the major ports of the country,? said K.Raghuramaiah, Paradip Port Trust chairman.
The port has handled an all-time record annual traffic of 46.41 million tonnes during the fiscal 2008-09 breaking the previous record of 42.44 million tonnes in 2007-08. Stating that the port is progressing in a planned manner, the chairman said the handling capacity of Paradip Port will be increased to 134 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by the 2011-12. This enhanced capacity will enable the port to handle cargo to the tune of 100 MTPA by 2016-17.
