Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn who is on cloud nine after the success of his movie Golmaal Again has revealed his plan to buy 150-200 movie theatres in the next three months. During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ajay said that he already owns 4 movie theatres in Uttar Pradesh that are currently running Golmaal Again. “Yes you have no idea of what business films do in China. It crosses worldwide business and the kind of audiences we have, we can do the same thing. And honestly since you have asked this question, I have started taking over theatres which have been shut down in UP. Till the release of Golmaal Again I already have 4. In my 4 theatres Golmaal Again is running,” he said.

Ajay added that there are about 800 theatres in UP that are shut and people have to travel a long way just to watch a movie. “I intend to go to 150-200 theatres, which I’ll do in another 3 months. 800 theatres in UP are shut and there is a population of more than 12 lacs and 25 lacs and there is no theatre. They have to travel 80 KM or so. Why should they travel so much to watch a film. They will travel for a Golmaal or a film which is good but not for a film which isn’t a cinematic experience,” he added.

Giving the example of Rae Bareilly, Ajay said that there was no theatre in the city which has a population of more than 25 lac. He said that if you add all these 25 lac people imagine the population we have who want to watch movies. The 48-year-old actor said that unlike other countries, Indians do not have much to do when they go out, but watch a movie.

Golmaal Again which released day after Diwali this year has done well at the box-office. The fourth movie in this series, directed by Rohit Shetty has earned over Rs 150 crores so far. The horror comedy also stars Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tabu, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu in important roles. Rohit Shetty-directed film had generated tremendous excitement due to the festive team, highly exciting trailer, the popularity of the franchise and the combination of horror and humour.
