Pakistan’s trade deficit narrowed to $964.63 million in February, compared with $873.15 million in February last year, the Federal Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.

The deficit was $1.62 billion in January.

Exports stood at $1.53 billion in February, against $1.25 billion in the same month last year. Imports were worth $2.50 billion in February compared with $2.12 billion in the same month last year.

The country’s trade deficit for the first eight months of the 2009/10 (July-June) fiscal year was $9.42 billion, against $11.69 billion in the same period last year, the bureau said.

Pakistan’s trade deficit for the entire 2008/09 fiscal year was $17.04 billion.
