The Orissa government, on Tuesday, unveiled its e-college initiative, the first of its kind in the country, putting in place e-governance in the higher education sector.
The interactive portal will host the website for all the 1,500 government and non-government colleges in the state. This will enable a convergence of higher education secretariat, directorates and colleges. CSM Techonologies has developed the e-college software.
Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, member, Rajya Sabha, launched the portal at a conference with the college principals here on Tuesday. The state higher education minister, Sameer Dey, was also present on the occasion. PK Mohapatra, state IT secretary, said the e-college project would not only bring transparency in functioning of the colleges and the higher education department, but also make execution of works faster.
He also added that said state government has lined up as many as 25 e-governance projects to switch over entire government works into electronic mode. He said that after the success of e-sishu, an initiative of the women & child welfare department, about three states are now proposing to replicate the programme in their respective states.
The state government has already launched the e-procurement initiative and this will be followed by e-registrations of lands in October 2008, he said.
