As if the spectre of a united opposition derailing the Winter Session of Parliament was not enough, the UPA government’s own allies the DMK and the NCP were in the well of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, protesting against various issues.
While the DMK members protested against a film depicting the havoc caused by the destruction of a dam in south India (referring perhaps to the Mullaperiyar controversy in Idukki district of Kerala), NCP members raised the issue of restrictions on onion exports by displaying placards.
In any case, the opposition and government allies ensured that the two Houses were adjourned first till noon and soon after for the entire day after more than half the strength of the House appeared to be in the Well.
