The overall export of oilmeals for the period April 2007 to December 2007 decreased by 7% at 29.65 lakh tonne compared to 31.76 lakh tonne due to in decrease in export of soy meal, rape meal and groundnut meal, according to data compiled by the Solvent Extractors? Association (SEA).

Export of soya meal during the period was down from 21.59 lakh tonne to 19.81 lakh tonne. Similarly, export of rapeseed meal was also down from 6.57 lakh tonne to 5.97 lakh tonne, groundnut meal from 65,550 tonne to 36,125 tonne and ricebran meal from 1.57 lakh tonne to 1.15 lakh tonne in first nine months of the current year 2007-08.

However, export of oilmeals for the month of December 2007 reported at 6.76 lakh tonne compared to 6.27 lakh tonne in December 2006 was up by 8% due to increase in soybean meal and groundnut meal exports.

Castor meal export jumped to 2.33 lakh tonne from 1.37 lakh tonne thanks to increased buying form South Korea and Taiwan.

Vietnam increased the import of oilmeals from India and reported at 8.93 lakh tonne consist of 7.29 lakh tonne of soybean meal, 47,873 tonne of rapeseed meal and entire quantity of 1.15 lakh tonne of ricebran extraction.

South Korea reported import of 5.35 lakh tonne consist of 2.75 lakh tonne of rapeseed meal, 1.66 lakh tonne of castorseed meal and 93,100 tonne of soybean meal.

Japan imported 4.29 lakh tonne mainly of 4.18 lakh tonne of soybean meal and 10,700 tonne of rapeseed meal. China reduced the import from India due to better local crushing and imported 1.07 lakh tonne of rapeseed meal, 98,650 tonne of soybean meal and 31,150 tonne of groundnut meal during the review period.
