Total export of oilmeals during the first half (April/September) of the current financial year 2007-08 was down by 12% at 14.32 lakh tonne compared to 16.33 lakh tonne in the same period last year, due to decrease in export of soya meal, rapeseed meal and groundnut meal.
During the review period, soybean meal export was down at 7.75 lakh tonne from 9.76 lakh tonne in the same period last year. Rapeseed meal export was also down from 4.51 lakh tonne to 3.90 lakh tonne. Similarly, groundnut meal export also decreased from 48,100 tonne to 12,275 tonne, according to the data released by the Solvent Extractors? Association of India (SEA).
However, total export of oilmeals for the month of September 2007 were reported at 3.53 lakh tonne compared to 3.24 lakh tonne in September 2006, up by 9%.
Castor meal export during the first half of the current year jumped to 1.63 lakh tonne from 63,575 tonne thanks to good buying form South Korea & Taiwan.
Vietnam increased the import of oilmeals from India and reported at 5.13 lakh tonne which include 3.87 lakh tonne of soybean meal, 34,775 tonne of rapeseed meal and entire quantity of 91,475 tonne of ricebran extraction from India.
South Korea reported import of 3.23 tonne that consist of 1.94 lakh tonne of rapeseed meal, 1.17 lakh tonne of castor meal and 12,325 tonne of soybean meal. Japan imported 1.60 lakh tonne mainly of 1.56 lakh tonne of soybean meal and 4,375 tonne of rapeseed meal.
China reduced the import from India due to better local crushing and imported only 71,675 tonne of rapeseed meal, 15,100 tonne of soybean meal and 7,500 tonne of groundnut meal. The export from Kandla was reported at 10.05 tonne (70%).
