Export of oilmeals for the month of July 2008 increased to 4.61 lakh tonne from 1.42 lakh tonne thanks to good demand from Japan and Vietnam, according to latest figures released by the Solvent Extractors? Association of India (SEA) .
The overall export of oilmeals for the period April to July 2008 was reported at 18.6 lakh tonne compared to 9.70 lakh tonne due to increased in export of soybean meal from 4.91 lakh tonne to13.89 lakh tonne, and Rapeseed meal from 2.80 lakh tonne to 3.52 lakh tonne. However, export of other oilmeals, rice bran extraction and castor seed extraction has decreased in first four months of the financial year 2008-09.
Following the SEA delegation visit to South East Asian countries in May 2008, Vietnam has shown quantum jump in import of oilmeals from India and reported at 4.69 lakh tonne compared to 3.73 lakh tonne last year; consist of 3.97 lakh tonne of soyabean meal, 19,572 tonne of rapeseed meal and entire 51,964 tonne of ricebran extraction from India. South Korea reported import of 2.97 lakh tonne compared to 2.27 lakh tonne of last year, consist of 1.71 lakh tonne of rapeseed meal, 63,289 tonne of soybean meal and 62,842 tonne of castorseed meal.
Japan reported import of 2.20 lakh tonne compared to 1.04 lakh tonne consist of 2.17 lakh tonne of soybean meal and 3,100 tonne of rapeseed meal during April to July 2008.
The export from Kandla was reported at 10.98 lakh tonne (59%), followed by Mumbai which handled 4.25 lakh tonne (23%), Bedi 1.51 lakh tonne (8%), Vizag handled 1.08 lakh tonne (6%) and Kakinada 73,566 tonne (4%).
