The tool-down strike at utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra?s engine and transmission plant at Igatpuri entered its sixth day on Tuesday with production loss seen at 6,000 units. In value terms, it is estimated that the company is incurring a loss of R15-18 crore per day.

The union and the management failed to reach a resolution on the suspension of two workmen on April 9. Due to the strike at Igatpuri, M&M?s vehicle manufacturing plant at Nashik has also got impacted with effects seen on production of models like Scorpio, Xylo, Bolero and pick-ups, other than Quanto, said sources in the union.

?Nashik plant has been producing 300-400 units a day, but as on April 16 the numbers are going down. Quanto gets engines from other plants like Chakan so there is some breather,? said a source in the union at Nashik. He added that the impact is expected to worsen. An email sent to M&M remained unanswered.

The Igatpuri plant employees have been on strike since April 9 and are demanding reinstatement of the two employees by the management. On Friday, the management had filed a case in the labour court in Igatpuri concerning the matter.

Meanwhile, the Nashik plant is looking at ways to address production loss and is awaiting decision on the new wage agreement.

?Management has called for a meeting on Tuesday evening and we hope a decision will be arrived,? said source in the union at Nashik.
