The group of ministers on national manufacturing policy on Friday ironed out the differences among ministries over the policy, its chairman Sharad Pawar said.

The policy, which seeks to increase the share of manufacturing in the GDP from 16% at present to 25% by 2025, would now be taken up by the Cabinet again.

The Cabinet could not clear the policy at an earlier meeting (September 15) due to objections raised by environment and labour ministries over some of the proposals, especially those for delegation of environmental and labour-related powers to the proposed national manufacturing and investment zones (NMIZs).

Pawar said: “there were certain issues raised by environment, labour and MSME ministries and I think in today’s meeting we have succeeded in addressing them.” “I will be able to submit a final draft this week only…after which that cabinet will take a final view,” he said.

However he did not clarify on how the differences were ironed out. He said the SPV for NMIZs will comprise “two or three people out of which one will be from the state pollution board.” The SPV would be manned by government officials.
