1) The job: What I love about this job is that every day is different, and brings with it different decisions and challenges. Almost anything that happens in the world today can have a direct or indirect impact on our business. This keeps me thinking and I love that my job challenges me each day in different ways.
2) The weekdays: I typically spend 8-10 hours at work each day. First thing I do each morning is to check the flight reports from the day before. Besides checking for our flight loads, etc., I also confirm that all operations went as smoothly as planned. In our business, safety is of utmost priority and we need to ensure there are no hiccups or any technical issues.
Flight disruptions can happen any time so this means my working hours can also be quite erratic and sometimes personal plans have to take a backseat. Usually if we experience service lapses, for example, flight delays, it means that customer experience will inevitably suffer and it can be challenging trying to manage customers? expectations particularly when we?re selling a low-cost product.
3) The weekend: Given that my weekdays and nights are mainly spent at work, I try to spend more time with my wife on the weekends, particularly as our children are all grown up now. On Sundays, you can usually find me out on the golf course. If I?m not playing golf, I?ll try to run with my wife. We also like to explore new food places, like most Singaporeans.
Another thing I like to catch up on over the weekend is magazine reading. I love reading trade magazines. Even if the magazines I?m browsing are slightly backdated issues since I don?t usually have the luxury of reading it hot off the press, I like catching up on the developments in the industry, etc.
I also like to browse through travel magazines..
4) The toys: I?ll be the first to admit I am not a gadget fanatic at all. To me, technology serves a functional need. I?m quite happy with my Samsung work phone. I see no need to change for the sake of keeping up with the times.
5) The logos: I?m not a brand conscious person. For my golfing apparel, I?m a fan of TaylorMade by Adidas. And for my everyday work wear, I swear by Goldlion ? it fits well on my small frame. For cars, I also tend to stick to the same brand. I?ve been driving Mercedes cars for the past 15 years, and for my wife we opt for a Japanese automobile as it?s reliable and functional.
