Social networking is the hottest thing today. As per Twitter, 40% of Twitter updates are done through mobile phones. This clearly shows how well social networking and cell phones go together. Although there are numerous apps available out there to keep you updated on your social network, Nokia?s Ovi store recommends Socially as a social network client like no other for the Nokia touch phones. We agree completely.
The interface of Socially is very impressive at first glance. Well placed icons on top for quick access to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Foursquare feeds. Just under those icons is a filmstrip that shows the profile picture of the people with recent updates. Selecting the person displays the posted update below the film strip. From this display, a user can keep a track of all the updates coming in, but any other actions i.e. reply/ retweet etc cannot be done.
Selecting the relevant social network from the icons on top takes you into a mini website of the social network. Each social network has its relevant header icons on top with the update stream underneath. The most impressive aspect of the app is that for each social network, it gives full functionality in the update feed itself like you would get on the respective website. Under each update is the option to like, reply, retweet etc as per the social network you are viewing. Interestingly the application also shows the amount of data being transferred during updates and refreshes.
If this wasn?t good enough, the application also provides option to link your existing phone contacts with either of the social network. Moreover, it also functions as a call blocker wherein after every call the app checks if you want to block calls coming in from this number for future (this feature can also be turned off easily). The blocked calls can also be viewed through the software along with other relevant details.
Socially as a social network client is a top class application for the Nokia Touch phones. The only issue we had was that for providing rights to Socially to access your social networks, one first time visit requires signing in through the browser and providing access to the application. Any attachments etc are also opened in the browser and not within the app. Among the tonnes of options out there, we recommend socially for the simplicity and robustness it brings in on a touch screen.
