Mahindra Satyam is having a crack at the large-sized e-governance projects in the country, after two-year lull. The company had recently secured projects from both UIDAI and Irda, as a start. Chasing government contracts has now become the backbone of a new aggressive business strategy that the company has adopted, top officials of the company said.
Sources told FE that they will also look at cloud computing projects in the government space. Mahindra Satyam, once boasted an impressive clientele of more than a third of the Fortune 500 companies, hit a trough when the accounting scam broke open. It had lost a few key clients during the period, and is now trying to woo them back.
?We would be bidding for large-sized e-gover nance projects across the country. We will also target the emerging markets in this regard,? sources said.
Having developed expertise in the BFSI, telecom and manufacturing sector, the company is exploring a strong deal pipeline in this rapidly growing business vertical.
?We have won more than 50 new logos in the recent past across geographies.
We expect further progress since the financials are announced. Additionally, we have had project extensions from more than 20 large clients in the recent past and expect this to increase as we go forward,? sources said.
?We are more inclined to acquire captive assets of a customer than just another service provider.?
According to an Angel Broking note, Mahindra Satyam is witnessing good traction in service industries, such as manufacturing, telecom, media and entertainment.
For the company, financial services segment has just started picking up momentum but healthcare and life sciences still remains weak. Among service lines, enterprise solutions, engineering services and infrastructure management services have shown good strength in the past quarters.
Mahindra Satyam had over 500 active clients before the founder Ramalinga Raju’s confession of Rs 7,800-crore scam broke out in 2009.
Post the scam in January 2009, the company experienced heavy churn in clients asking for outright termination. The company lost 194 clients resulting in a 38% drop in revenue and it lost majority of its clients in the BFSI space where it holds strongest domain expertise.
Currently, the company has an active client base of 217 firms, contributing more than $250,000 per year to the revenue.
