Banking on a Parliamentary debate on the Indo-US nuclear deal to placate the Left, Congress said the matter of the Government falling over opposition to the agreement was a ?non-issue?.

“All we need to do is to allow a debate on the issue in Parliament,” Congress spokesperson Kapil Sibal said.

The concerns raised by the Left parties will be addressed in the debate, he said adding, “All their questions will be clarified on the basis of the 123 Agreement. If we address this, the basis of the concerns will go”.

Sibal said some members of the Left parties have already met him and he explained the Hyde Act and the 123 Agreement to them.

“They (Left leaders) said we didn’t know about it,” he added.

On whether the Government might fall over the opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal, he said, “this is a non-issue”.

“I don’t think any government will fall. I don’t think anybody will take that position once the issue is debated in Parliament,” the Union Minister added.

“It is possibly the best deal we have ever got. It is a historic deal which will open so many vistas of opportunity for us.”
