The government has appointed Bimal Julka, an administrative service officer from Madhya Pradesh cadre, as additional secretary in the finance ministry. He would take charge of the capital markets, infrastructure and currency and coinage divisions in the department of economic affairs (DEA). Julka has been appointed as director general (currency). Sources said the joint secretaries, who now handle infrastructure and capital markets in the department ? Govind Mohan and Alok Sheel respectively, would report to the DG (currency). Sheel was handling part of the capital market division’s work in addition to multilateral relations division that deals with India’s G-20 talks.

Earlier this month, KP Krishnan, joint secretary, capital markets division, took charge as secretary to the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council.

Julka had earlier served as joint secretary in the defence ministry and as director in the finance ministry, civil aviation ministry and in the commerce and industry ministry.
