Amid subdued export demand, jeera prices fell by 1.30 per cent in futures trade on Monday.

However, estimates of lower production and weak supplies from fresh crop, capped losses.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in May fell by Rs 226, or 1.30 per cent, to Rs 17,125 per quintal, with an open interest of 135 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in February declined by Rs 8, or 0.05 per cent, to Rs 16,050 per quintal, clocked a business turnover of 4,260 lots.

Market analysts said weak export demand mainly put pressure on the jeera futures prices but tight supplies following estimates of lower production, restricted losses.
