Intel Corp, the world?s largest chipmaker, said on Monday it was restructuring its business to consolidate all of its major product divisions into a new Intel Architecture Group, and appointed Sean Maloney and Dadi Perlmutter as its leaders. The move comes after the announced departure of one of its executives, Patrick Gelsinger.

Maloney will oversee business and operations while Perlmutter will lead product development and architecture, and all executives in Intel?s components businesses and related development and marketing teams will report to them, the company said.

Andy Bryant, the company?s chief administrative officer, will lead Intel?s Technology and Manufacturing Group, and chief executive Paul Otellini will now devote more of his time to corporate strategy, it said.

Meanwhile, EMC Corp, the world?s biggest maker of storage computers, hired Gelsinger and said chief executive officer Joseph Tucci will stay on for at least three more years. Gelsinger will oversee all of EMC?s infrastructure products, except those made by VMware Inc, said Michael Gallant, a spokesman for Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based EMC. Tucci, who took the helm in 2001, will stay in the CEO and chairman role through 2012, Gallant said. Gelsinger joined Intel in 1979 and was co-head of the digital-enterprise group, which accounts for more than half of the company?s sales. He was Intel?s youngest group vice-president at age 32, playing a role in the design of some of the company?s most important computer processors. Gelsinger had said publicly that he aimed to some day serve as Intel?s CEO.

EMC also said Howard Elias was promoted to oversee the company?s services and cloud computing business. Along with chief financial officer David Goulden, Gelsinger and Elias will make up an expanded executive office of the chairman, Gallant said.

Tucci joined EMC in the middle of a two-year sales slump. He was able to restore revenue growth by expanding into storage software and by taking on Hewlett-Packard Co and International Business Machines Corp (IBM) Gallant declined to say if Tucci plans to leave after 2012. Both Gelsinger and Elias will have the title of president and chief operating officer of their divisions, Gallant said.
