Inflation eased to 4.28 per cent for the week ended June 9, as compared to 4.80 per cent for the previous week; mainly due to lower prices of food articles and some manufactured items.

The annual inflation rate was the lowest in more than a year. The wholesale prices-based inflation stood at a much higher level of 5.29 per cent in the corresponding week a year ago.

Among the food articles, prices of pulses, cereals, wheat, fruits and vegetables and fish-marine witnessed a decline while condiments and spices moved up.

In the manufactured items, prices of khandsari and soyabean oil came down, while sunflower oil, vanaspati, imported edible oil became dearer.
