Comparing the Indian Cricket League to a profit-driven ?fly-by-night? group, Punjab Cricket Association President I S Bindra urged the BCCI to give amnesty period to the players joining the rebel League, if they want to return.
“ICL is like a fly-by-night group. It is like any other company which is there to make profit. Obviously, their objectives are clear that they will continue only till as long as they make profit,” said Bindra.
“When any organisation is just there for distribution of profit, that by very nature cannot be a promotional organisation,” he said at a joint press conference with BCCI Joint Secretary M P Pandove at the PCA stadium.
Bindra, who is the former BCCI President, also said sports could only be promoted by organisations which are not there for profit alone.
One of the office-bearers on the Cricket Board, Bindra said the players were misguided by the multi-million dollar breakaway League and BCCI should give them some time if they want to return.
“They (the players) have been misguided by showing greener pastures to them. Now, if some players like Laxmi Rattan Shukla decide that they want to come back, the doors should be kept open for them, atleast for a few weeks. I understand there has been so much hype around, which is why I am suggesting some amnesty period as it will take the players some time to come to know the implications of what step they have taken. However, it is up to the Board to take a final decision.”
