Haryana has exceeded the target for acreage under wheat cultivation this rabi season. Wheat has been sown in 24.65 lakh hectare so far against the target of 24.25 lakh hectare fixed for the current rabi season by the agriculture department.

With the sowing of rabi crops in full swing in the state, the area under wheat cultivation is set to increase further.

A spokesman of the agriculture department on Friday said the area under wheat cultivation was almost equal to the last season. The target for wheat production has been fixed at 103.3 lakh metric tonne for the current season against 102.36 lakh metric tonne last rabi season. The area under pulses and oilseeds too has increased significantly.

Grams have been cultivated on 1.3 lakh hectare in the state against the target of 1.5 lakh hectare this rabi season. Similarly, Barley has been sown on 42,000 hectare, against the target of 45,000 hectare for barley cultivation.
