Car maker General Motors India (GM) reported a 87 per cent increase in domestic sales during July at 4,570 units against 2,450 units in the same month last year.

The company sold 1,601 units of multi-utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera, 1,119 units of sedan Aveo and hatchback Aveo UV-A, 450 units of premium sedan Chevrolet Optra and 1,400 units of its mini car Spark during the month, GM said in a statement.

GM said Chevrolet Spark and the recently-launched Chevrolet Optra Magnum diesel have been well received by customers across the country.

“With a consistent surge in monthly sales, our key focus remains to address the changing customer needs while providing them world-class products and best-in-class service,” GM India Vice-President (marketing, sales and after sales) Ankush Arora said in the statement.

GM has enhanced the capacity of its Halol, Gujarat plant to 85,000 vehicles per annum while a new facility at Talegaon, Maharashtra is expected to start commercial production by end of next year.

The plant when completed will have an annual production capacity of 1,40,000 vehicles, taking the total capacity to 2,25,000 units per annum by the end of next year.
