Nowadays, India?s mobile market is overcrowded with a large number of phone makers, especially in the low-budget entry-level segment. You will find a wide range of mobile phone brands in this category including Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG. Local brands are also available. However, this wide array of choice often leaves the buyer dazed and confused.

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia, which is still one of the trusted brands in mobile phones, is trying to add more depth into their entry-level lineup; it has introduced two exciting models?C2-03 and C2-06.

Design wise, both the handsets look very much similar to Nokia C2-02. Though both these phones look very simple and basic, they have compelling features which will definitely draw the attention of low-budget mobile buyers.

It might be recalled that Nokia started its Indian operations with budget mobiles. They captured the hearts of the masses with their feature-rich handsets, notably for remarkable reliability, simplicity, long battery life and useful utilities such as torchlight, scheduler, calendar and many more.

Nokia C2-03 and C2-06 are touch and type phones, which come in attractive colours with chrome finish, and with a slide out key pad. Both the models come with 2.6 inches TFT resistive touchscreen and dual SIM with easy swap function for both SIMs, thereby allowing users to change their SIM cards without actually having to switch off their mobile phones or remove the batteries which makes calling from either SIM very easy. Use your finger to scroll through websites, photos and music on the 2.6-inch display. And unlike many touch-screen phones, there?s a slide-out keypad for fast, easy typing?just like you?re used to.

Some other basic features which come with these two phones are: 2 MP cameras, video recording at QCIF@15fps, 10 MB internal storage and microSD up to 32 GB with 2 GB included. Both the phones have the same talk time of up to 5 hours. On the connectivity front, both the Nokia C2-03 and Nokia

C2-06 have the latest 2G Internet access technologies like GPRS and EDGE.

Both the models have the latest in multimedia support including music player, video player, audio and video recording. Music experience is more enriched with features like FM Radio, multi-format media support for ring tones, 3.5 mm audio jack and a bundled headphone. Both the phones have support for playback of a number of media files like MP3, WMV, AVI and even high definition video formats like H263 and H264.

On the connectivity front, both the Nokia C2-03 and Nokia C2-06 have support for Bluetooth version 2.1 with A2DP. The phones come with USB cables for PC Sync. Both have the latest 2G internet access technologies like GPRS and EDGE. However both the models lack high speed 3G and Wi-Fi internet connectivity.

Broadly when it comes to specifications, Nokia C2-03 and Nokia C2-06 are very much similar. One might wonder as to why the company has introduced both the phones together and also with different price tags. The only notable difference we found was this: Nokia C2-06 has a built-in 106 phone speaker with music play time of up to 35 hours, whereas C2-03 lacks a built-in speaker. There isn?t difference on the price front too. Nokia C2-03 retails at R4,099, while Nokia C2-06 comes at around R4,807.
