Tokyo-based Eisai Pharma is planning to start a research & development (R&D) laboratory for formulation development in Visakhapatnam. The company would begin with four to five projects.
Eisai Knowledge Centre president Sanjit Singh Lamba said, ?The formulation development R&D wing is expected to go commercial next year.? The facility, Eisai Knowledge Centre (EKC), is located in an SEZ. Almost 95% of the production from EKC is exported. Some of the products to be manufactured in this facility include Aricept, a drug for Alzheimer’s disease and Aciphex/Parit, a proton pump inhibitor in the initial phase. In the second phase products like Epry, a muscle relaxant, Zonigran for vertigo and methylcobal for neuropathy disorders is to be manufactured.
