In a move that was widely anticipated, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) pledged solidarity with Kanimozhi, its Rajya Sabha MP and daughter of party president and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi. Kanimozhi was named as an accused in the 2G spectrum case by the CBI on Monday.
In a statement after a high-level meeting on Wednesday, the DMK said, ?The party is surprised that Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sarath Kumar were named. We will face it legally. It is an attempt to defame the DMK, its leader Karunanidhi.?
Emerging from the meeting, Karunanidhi expressed ?anguish? over the inclusion of Kanimozhi?s name in the second charge sheet in the spectrum allocation case by the CBI and said his party would fight the issue legally to prove the innocence. ?We will take legal steps to prove the truth,? he said.
