Dell plans to step up its retail operations in India through its arm Dell Computer India. It presently operates 38 exclusive Dell stores pan-India and is expected to double the number in financial year 2011-12 (FY12). Buoyed by a 65% growth in its small and medium business (SMB) segment last fiscal, the company intends to expand its retail presence and sales channel in India, with an increased focus in tier II and III towns. It also plans to come up with more research and development (R&D) centers and customer service units. However, company officials refused to divulge investment figures.
According to latest IDC figures published in January 2011, Dell leads the consumer notebook segment in India and comes second behind HP in the desktop market. Other players in the PC segment include Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba.
Sanjay Yadav, director ? distribution and retail for Dell India said, ?We’re present in large format stores like Croma and Staples and thousands of resellers in cosmopolitan hubs across metros and Tier I cities. Now, we’re looking at deeper market penetration.?
