The commerce ministry on Friday came out with a discussion paper proposing a revamp of the current SEZ policy. The paper highlights the concerns over land acquisition. The paper admitted land availability for SEZs had become a constraint in the recent past and the situation was accentuated by fairly onerous requirements of minimum size, contiguity, predominantly non-double cropped land and non-compulsory acquisition. The paper also said there was a need to review aspects like minimum area criteria for SEZs.
