Energy saving brings substantial reduction in the total cost of production. Thus, to be in lead with the global players, Indian industries need to be at par with the global giants in the sphere of energy management. With this backdrop to create awareness about techniques for effective energy management that facilitates reduction in both thermal and electrical energy consumption, CII-LM Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs organised a two-day training programme on “energy saving techniques” at CII sub regional office here on Monday.
Focusing on the steps that need to be undertaken, it was highlighted that though India is taking valuable step in supply side management through construction of mega power plants, equipment efficiency also demands equal importance. Its can be improved at the design stage itself by correct selection, best equipment supplier, proper installation and efficient operating and maintenance. Moreover, the operating cost and maintenance cost will be reduced in the following ways:
* Selection of the equipment? If it is done at design stage, the operating cost will be reduced to the maximum possible extent
* Energy audit? This is very good tool for improving the equipment efficiency after design stage
* Efficient operating and maintenance?Best practice.
Since Energy Management is not only important from the commercial importance but also it has the importance in reduction of environmental pollution. Hence on the first day, technical modules like air compressors, centrifugal pumps, lighting and distribution were focused.
