As an immediate fallout of the C Sivasankaran-Dayanidhi Maran case, the CBI is going to question several former telecom secretaries on their role in the 2G scam. The CBI also plans to question former telecom minister Maran. All investigations have to be completed by July 6, the day the CBI submits its report on the ongoing 2G scam to the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Joint Parliamentary Committee chairman PC Chacko said he did not want to ?sensationalise? the probe being conducted by the committee, confirming that Ratan Tata, Anil Ambani and Niira Radia will not be summoned as witnesses. ?We have a list of 10 companies which have been accused of benefiting from the 2G spectrum scam, and we will ask to see whoever their official representative is,? he said.
Sivasankaran, Aircel?s former owner who alleged Maran forced him to sell out to Maxis, also claimed Maran had delayed giving Aircel licences. The Shivraj Patil committee report details several of the delays and names former secretaries Nripendra Misra and DS Mathur as being part of the process in delaying Aircel/Dishnet Wireless and then attempting to favour it after Sivasankaran sold his stake. Though the report doesn?t name current Trai chief JS Sarma by name ? he served as secretary between Misra and Mathur ? the CBI feels the full story can be got only by quizzing all three.
?Siva has made very strong claims against Maran and at present we are trying to ascertain the veracity of his allegations. We have already asked the DoT for all the files pertaining to that period and a few more are expected. We are studying the financial transactions, emails and other communication among Sivasankaran, Maran and Maxis owner T Ananda Krishnan at that point of time and especially how the valuations were arrived at,? a CBI official told FE.
