The CBI on Wednesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court to bring on record the relevant facts regarding the alleged role of Sunil Bharti Mittal in a corruption case linked to allocation of additional 2G spectrum in 2002 as disclosed by its chargesheet filed in the 2G court.
The affidavit suggested that there were connections between alleged tweaking of additional spectrum policy by then communication minister Pramod Mahajan and subscription of IPO of Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd ? a group company of Bharti Cellular. Mittal, MD of Bharti Cellular Ltd, CBI said, was a managing director as well as promoter in the holding company Bharti Tele-ventures.
The CBI added there was evidence to show that Mittal had met Mahajan and former telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh during 2001-02 for additional spectrum beyond 6.2 MHz for the Delhi.
It also said that an overall revenue loss of Rs 846 crore was caused to the exchequer by the low rates of Adjusted Gross Revenue imposed in favour of three companies.
