Television has become the most boring, dull and predictable screen that talks to us morning, night and noon. It is the same old thing ? angry authoritarian Togadia and the most powerful brat of all, Bush, belching their out views. The former has made it clear that when he is in a position of power, he will rid India of all those who dissent and disagree with his position on most, if not all, matters. The US President has a similar disposition.
He believes that America, ironically with the largest arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, can behave in this brash and petulant manner with other nations that may or may not have such weapons. The arrogance is quite disgraceful. They believe that they alone are ?responsible?, that they have the god given right to bomb the hell out of nations they disagree with, and then give us this farce of ?rebuilding? from the rubble that is their creation. Weird logic.
They hated the communists, they killed thousands in Vietnam; they want to control the reserves of oil and so they want to go for Iraq and then supposedly ?rebuild? with a stooge regime. It?s all so obvious and nauseating. In fact, American policy is not bringing nations together ? it is effectively polarising the world and endorsing confrontational situations that will accelerate ?terrorism?. America is forcing retaliation by its imperial posturing. The hypocrisy in their policy is disturbing…their attitude to Pakistan being one glaring example.
This most ?powerful? nation in the world is the most powerful nuclear nation…other countries aspiring for power have followed the US model but the US has adopted the role of the only ?arbiter? on earth. Since their only ?culture? is brute force, starting with the discovery of America and the killing of the indigenous Indians, onto today, they need to be educated about humanity, multicultural diversity, respect, and more important, dissension. It claims to be a great democracy but it is not showing the paces…it demands everything on its own terms. It has assumed the mantle of the most ?authoritarian? nation on the planet.
And, what a reward for Jamshyd Godrej. I wonder if he knew about the ?impending? Padma Bhushan when he hailed Narendra Modi as the saviour, and the architect of a Gujarat that will soon be free of unemployment and suchlike. The platitudes were so ridiculous that they left one wondering why the acumen of leaders of industry had melted away. Had they never read their history books, for a start? I suppose this is a good first lesson for those who want a Republic Day honour next year…maybe the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) should open its doors to Shri Togadia, Shri Katiyar and get their views on how to turn Uttar Pradesh around. CII should create and implement the blueprint for business and industry for the Mayawati/BJP combine in the largest state of India.
Well, one thing is for sure, industry seems to jump onto any bandwagon as long as it can ?reap? whatever harvest it can, regardless of other ethics and values. I suppose if political fortunes are reversed, the same Godrej will be bending and bowing to Sonia Gandhi. And, he will also find a ?parsi? connection to rationalise the support! Yes, it is pretty comic and ridiculous, this kind of blatant adulation for those who rule. Modern nations should make their leaders accountable…no lessons learned.
The Delhi party scene was exceptionally quiet this week with the cancellation of Amar Singh?s birthday bash. It is quiet on that front…the city is recouping from the hectic months of socialising. The political buzz will resume as the elections in Himachal Pradesh draw closer. Living rooms in the city will have contrary opinions being thrown around…the pundits will pontificate and the people will surprise us all yet again. It is the Congress pitted against the BJP and there are no large chunks of muslim voters to ?appease?. Wait and watch.
