The power situation in Haryana would improve significantly from July 1, as the state government would buy additional 1,462.4 mw power at a cost of Rs 672.51 crore from other sources.

It would be followed by additional purchase of 1,082.4 mw at a cost of Rs 502.06 crore in August and 1,092.4 mw at a cost of Rs 488.52 crore in September.

This was decided in a meeting presided over by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday to review the short-term and long-term measures being taken by power utilities to improve the power situation. Hooda directed the power utilities to ensure uninterrupted supply of power for at least eight hours daily to the agricultural sector from July 1 and maintain this supply in August and September as well.

There is a proposal to supply power for 16 hours to the industrial sector from July 1 and consumers in urban areas would get 21-hour supply. Similarly, rural domestic consumers would get 13-hour supply in July, followed by 13.5 hours in August and 14 hours in September.
