Global communication services major British Telcom (BT) will boost its India presence by expanding services portfolio and focusing on the non- IT verticals in the country. The company, which was traditionally known as a telecommunications major was positioning its brand as a single solutions provider for networking and IT requirements, BT president Asia Pacific, Allen Ma said.
Addressing the media, at the company?s Asia Pacific media day, Ma said that BT was exploring options to offer IT services in the country by leveraging its telecommunication client base in India. ?We need to expand our services portfolio in India. We are talking to our customers in India to allow us to leverage our telecommunications portfolio to do that,? Ma said.
Currently, BT is strongly focused on the IT and BPO market in India, which according to Ma, were strong economic growth drivers in the region. However, opportunities were also to grow in verticals such as life sciences and pharmaceuticals, media and broadcasting sectors, where it had clients such as NDTV, Star and Ranbaxy. The financial services sector was also seen as potential growth area, Ma said. BT worked with the British Embassy and multi national clients in India to re-position its brand, Ma said. ?We need to promote that BT is not only a telecommunications company. We want to consolidate networking and IT as a single solution,? he said. India?s information communication technologies market, which grew at a CAGR of 12.7%, was the fastest growing in the Asia Pacific region, Ma said.
