The BJP on Friday launched a fresh attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his remarks on Thursday enumerating failures of the NDA regime led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The party said that the attempt of the Prime Minister was a ?desperate rattling? of a ?much weakened? leader, who hardly had any authority left in the Cabinet and had also lost support from the Congress and other alliance partners.
Unleashing a personal attack on the Prime Minister, the BJP, which led the NDA coalition government, countered each of the allegations one by one and rubbished them all as a ?creeky response of a crumbling government?.
Claiming that the Prime Minister was a political novice, who is a late entrant in politics, the main Opposition said, Singh had lost ?mental balance?, when he branded Agra Summit a ?fiasco?.
?The talks at Agra failed because Vajpayee?s government was determined not to compromise on the issue of cross-border terrorism with Pakistan,? BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad explained, adding, that it was Vajpayee?s diplomacy that resulted in Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf?s pledge not to allow terrorist activities from Pakistan?s soil in 2004. But the same Prime Minister squandered the advantage, when he gave certificate to Pakistan that the country was equally a victim of terrorism as India, he lamented.
Joining the war of words, the Congress retaliated by stating that the spokespersons and representatives of the saffron party need to maintain their mental balance. ?He is the Prime Minister of the country and at some level, the Prime Minister represents every citizen of the country and any responsible person should think twice before using such language,? AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi told reporters here.
