Copper and other base metals gained up to Rs 3 per kg on the wholesale non-ferrous metal market today on fresh buying by stockists influenced by a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange.

Increased offtake by consuming industries also supported the uptrend. Trading sentiment turned better as copper in London climbed, as decline in stockpiles signalled demand for the industrial metal may improve.

Meanwhile, copper for the three-month delivery contract increased by 0.9 per cent to 7,550 dollar and nickel by 0.4 per cent to 22,840 dollar a metric tonne at the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were up by Rs 2 each to Rs 357,Rs 378 and Rs 336 while nickel (4×4) by Rs 3 to Rs 919-1034 per kg.

Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported were also traded higher by Rupee each at Rs 112, Rs 117 and Rs 119 per kg.
