Nearly 50 residents of Indira Colony gheraoed the Sector-16 police post on Saturday in protest against the alleged police inaction in arresting the accused involved in injuring a colony resident on Friday. Tempers ran high as residents raised slogans against the police for letting the accused go scot-free even though the victim had identified them. A case has been registered against the accused at the Sector-16 police post.

On Friday, a group of youths had allegedly attacked Rajesh and his nephew Sikander with rods following a spat late Thursday night. One of the victims, Sikander, who was sitting on a motorcycle outside the scooter repair shop of one Harish, was asked to get off the vehicle by him. This led to an argument between the two. Rajesh intervened and said that the matter be taken up with the elders in the area the next day. However, both of them were attacked by about 13 youth who injured them seriously. The duo were admitted to General Hospital in Sector 6 and their condition is stated to be stable.

The residents said that even though the PCR reached the spot on the day of the crime, they did not arrest anyone. Former councillor Harinder Singh claimed the police were not arresting the accused and the matter had every possibility of flaring up if no action was taken shortly. Station House Officer of the Sector-14 police station, Aman Kumar reached the spot and pacified the protestors that the matter would be investigated thoroughly and the accused would be arrested soon.
