Untimely heavy rains have caused extensive damage to the standing crops in almost all the districts in Andhra Pradesh. According to the preliminary report of agriculture department, crops in over 40,000 hectares have fully damaged. The main crops affected include: maize, groundnut, sunflower, jowar, chillies, turmeric besides mango and vegetables. The government has assured compensation to the farmers for the crops loss they suffered due to untimely rains. It also said that it will extend the input subsidy to them. The rains have caused seven deaths, five in Kurnool district, one each at Hyderabad and Mahaboobnagar, officials in disaster management department said.
