Coal movement from Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) faces more trouble with a three-day rail-roko scheduled from October 12-14 in support of the Telnagana agitation. This is expected to further cripple the power situation in Andhra Pradesh. SCCL uses about 22 rakes (each rake has about 72 wagons) per day for coal movement. SCCL has reported a total loss of R400 crore during the 25-day strike called by Telangana supporters thus far.

The South Central Railway (SCR) has made arrangements through its travel advisory for passenger trains.

However, the freight, which predominantly constitutes coal movement from Singareni Collieries, has hit the zone?s revenues to an extent of R60 crore for the month.

The zone, which stands fifth in freight traffic, has lost about 1.34 lakh tonnes of coal, which is from 6.98 lakh tonnes to 8.32 lakh tonnes in actual terms, according to K Siva Prasad, chief freight transportation manager, South Central Railway.

About 1,000 wagons are lying idle and the revenues loss (from the originating venue) is estimated to be around R 37,000 per hour per wagon,?? he said.
