Inundated with suggestions on ?One Action CM? section of his FB page, inviting people to share ideas for UP if they were chief minister
Even if not every Uttar Pradesh resident can become chief minister, they can now offer the real person, Akhilesh Yadav in this case, suggestions on what they would do if they were in charge. Thanks to Yadav?s Facebook page A2Y, where he has a campaign? ?One Action CM? ? inviting ideas from the public on how to run the state if they were chief minister, governance in UP can be called truly democratic.
In little over a month since Yadav took over, the campaign has gene-rated about 1,100 responses, with suggestions ranging from replicating Nitish Kumar?s success in Bihar, controlling population, ensuring safety of women to setting up a cancer hospital. Checking corruption, employment, better law and order machinery, education and healthcare
facilities are some other popular concerns.
People working closely with the chief minister say efforts are now on to segregate these responses and consolidate them into broad heads by identifying the most critical ones. The data thus collated could then be used for charting more concrete ideas and formulating policies, say insiders.
Yadav has kept his A2Y page updated through 24 posts since his swearing in. He has commented on the environment, thanked DRDO scientists for the successful launch of Agni V, welcomed the RBI move to slash lending rates and even wished students on the eve of board exams. He has also thanked everyone for their comments and suggestions and said that their participation and ideas for improvement are welcome. ?While it is impossible to respond to each one, all the suggestions are being taken into cognisance. So, stay connected and keep writing,? he wrote on March 29.
And to take the ?connect? with people to the next level, Yadav, who claims to be ?a product of young, vibrant and brave new India, embracing everything that India wants to be ? responsible, trustworthy and ready to take on any challenge?, on his fan page, has already issued instructions to his core team to take the help of IT tools and the new media in doing so.
While a call centre has been set up within the Lohia Trust to connect and address complaints on phone to the chief minister?s office, a separate and proper formal quick action response system is also expected to respond to queries on the One Action CM page too, either in the form of IVRS helplines, call centres, websites or even drop boxes. In short, anything that will increase accountability.
?Yes, the wish-list is long and expectations immense. Efforts have been initiated to make sense out of the multitude of expectations and wishes and get cracking on them. The role of social media forums and IT tools in present day life is incremental. And since the CM himself is a big IT buff, the next steps are obvious. We have already started receiving immense data on the fan page and the One Action page. We will soon turn these suggestions into action for the initiative to be successful,? said Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhry.
He added that this could also be taken forward by having a similar page for each government department in the state, in which queries can be posted by people and addressed by officials. ?This module can then be replicated in each village and block to ensure accountability and create better feedback among people,? he said. Here?s to networking power!
