An ambitious plan of construction of 130 substations and augmentation of 100 existing substations is under execution in the state to strengthen power transmission and distribution system.
It was disclosed by Kiran Choudhary, minister for forest, tourism, environment and Sports & Youth Affair, Haryana while addressing a public meeting after laying foundation stone of a 33 kv substation at village Pohkarwas last evening. Earlier, she laid foundation stone of a 33 kv substation at village Nangla also. The sub-stations would be constructed by the Dakshin Hayana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) at a cost of Rs 4 crore.
She said that the big transmission plan includes construction of three 220 kv substations, eighteen 132 kv substations, sixteen 66 kv substations and ninety five 33 kv substations. The augmentation of the transmission system would meet growing load in the state due to rapid industrialisation, urbanisation and increased agricultural activities. She said the Haryana Power Utilities had constructed 125 new substations of various levels and augmented capacity of 235 existing substations in the State during last over three years to augment power transmission system. To improve the network of distribution system of electricity, the utilities had set up 70,000 new power distribution transformers.
Kiran Choudhary said that to strengthen power transmission and distribution system in district Bhiwani, the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam and the DHBVN had a big plan of Rs 560 crore. Under the plan, the utilities would construct 28 new substations and augment capacity of 12 existing substations besides strengthening the distribution system. The new substations included, three substations of 220 kv level at Isharwal, Gignow and Sagwan, three substations of 132 kv level at Haluwas Khanak and Kairu and 22 substations of 33 kv level at different places in the district. Another plan of Rs 130 crores was being envisaged to construct additional 20 substations in the district.
The minister said that there was a proposal for investment of Rs 25,500 crore in power sector for new power generation plants and strengthening of transmission and distribution systems during 11th Plan period. By the year 2011, the state plans to increase the installed electricity generation capacity by over 5000 mw, more than doubling the existing capacity. This would bridge the gap between demand and supply.
