Virat Kohli is turning out to be a great success story for Indian cricket. The 28-year-old batsman from Delhi led India to an Under-19 World Cup before taking over as the captain of the senior side. In the last couple of years, he has changed the fortunes of the Indian cricket team making it the number one side in the world. Team India recently thrashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the just concluded three-match Test series. This was India’s first away whitewash which further established its dominance at international level. Under Kohli, the team has gelled up really well and is enjoying the game.

After the win in Pallekele, the Indian skipper revealed the reason behind his success. While most teams fail to flourish due to the internal senior-junior battle, Kohli revealed that isn’t the case when it comes to the Indian cricket team. “In this team, we are more like a bunch of friends playing together rather than a senior or a junior,” Kohli said after the end of the Test series in Pallekele. The RCB captain believes that this is the reason why the team is doing so well under him.

Kohli took charge of the Indian team about 2 years ago and has already bettered MS Dhoni’s overseas record. The new Indian captain has won 7 Tests away from home while Dhoni managed to win just 6. Interestingly, Dhoni captained India in 60 Tests. Also, the win at Pallekele was Kohli’s 19th as captain which is second highest after Steve Waugh (21) after 29 Tests.

Apart from this, it was also India’s 8th consecutive series win in the longer format of the game, all coming under Virat Kohli. In the series against Sri Lanka, opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan was India’s top scorer with 358 runs and two centuries under his belt while Cheteshwar Pujara with 309 runs was India’s second highest run-getter.

Ravichandran Ashwin was India’s highest wicket taker in the series with 17 wickets from 3 matches, Ravindra Jadeja, who missed out on the final Test due to a ban, finished second with 13 wickets from two matches.
