Unfazed by Kerala government’s announcement of a Vigilance probe against him in the solar scam, former chief minister Oommen Chandy reacted, “I have done nothing wrong. I am not afraid of investigation. We will fight this legally.” Chandy also stated that the government’s decision to probe the case would backfire, according to Manorama News. When asked about the allegations that have been raised against him, Oommen Chandy stated that his name had been mentioned in a ”fake” letter sent by the prime accused in the case, namely, Saritha S Nair.
”It is unusual to make an announcement like this when polling is going on in Vengara. Clearly, this is a politically motivated move,” Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala reacted to CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s announcement regarding the probe against Chandy. According to Mathrubhumi News, Special Investigation Team which is headed by DGP Rajesh Dewan will probe the alleged lapses of the earlier SIT team that had probed the solar scam. Further, the new SIT will look into the allegations of sexual abuse that have been raised by Saritha S Nair, who is one of the accused in the sensational solar scam case.
Meanwhile, Saritha S Nair, the woman at the center of the sensational solar scam, has welcomed the decision and expressed her thanks to the Kerala government for announcing a probe and she stated, ”No woman should be sexually abused again by politicians.” She added, ”Finally, justice has been served.”Kaumudi news reported that Saritha Nair also said that she is thankful to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ”who stood with justice even though he had to tackle pressures from different corners.”
The sensational solar scam shook the state’s political scenario when the private telephone conversations between Chandy’s staff members and Saritha Nair, the prime accused in the case, came out in front of the media. Since then, Saritha Nair has been the most sought-after person by media persons and local TV channels. Ever since she returned from jail in 2014, she has been throwing hints about the relationship she allegedly had with the then CM Oommen Chandy and top UDF leaders including two who were Union Ministers at the time the scam broke out.
