“When a foul smell started emanating from the room, the student in the neighbouring room called other students and security and forcefully opened door. He was found dead in the room,” a senior police officer said about the incident. While no suicide note has been found, the DCP said the most likely cause of death was overdose of alcohol.
“Philemon was residing in room no-171 of Brahmaputra Hostel and was not seen from last three days. Police was informed by security control room about his death” a Senior Police officer told IANS.
Meanwhile, another student, Najeeb Ahmed continues to be missing from JNU. Delhi Police increased the reward amount from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for information about Ahmed, 10 days after his disappearance following an altercation with some ABVP activists. After Ahmed went missing, JNU students staged protests by locking up the Vice Chancellor and other senior officials in their office. The day after, Union home minister Rajnath Singh asked the police to form a special team to trace the student.
